Home Demonstration Garden
The Home Demonstration Garden occupies four acres at the heart of The Arboretum. It was the first feature developed at The Arboretum in the early 1990s. It was developed from a conceptual design by Environmental Planning and Design, Pittsburgh, and a subsequent Master Plan for the entire Arboretum was developed around that time.
The garden is separated into different garden areas or "rooms" and illustrate a specific theme or idea. These rooms have changed over the years and will continue to do so to meet our mission.
Our mission in the Home Demonstration Garden is to provide gardeners, homeowners and students alike with home gardening ideas and plantings that showcase attractive and appropriate new plants alongside those that are proven to work well in the Bluegrass.
We look for plants that require fewer inputs (water, fertilizer, maintenance, etc.) and are visually appealing, so that you can create a beautiful and diverse environment in your home garden.
We exhibit a diverse collection of plants, including cultivars derived from native plants and non-invasive exotic plants found all over the world that can work well for Bluegrass homeowners. We want to show you some of the wonders of the plant world and encourage you to try it at home!
